noise pattern at higher ISO's, buffer needs, dual card slots, MP count for print size, etc. NOT a thing) I'd be concerned with regarding the decision between cameras. 5Ds the "more motion blur" fallacy is the LAST thing (i.e. This ^ then leads to the question regarding print size / crop amount.Īs to a decision about 6D vs. Just a matter of how tiny of an increment are you gonna look for it. It is the same whether it is a 6D, 5Ds or the original 5D. The only reason folks seem to think it requires more motion stopping ss is because they are looking at smaller subdivisions to inspect for how much motion blur is there. The motion blur relationship between subject distance, focal length and shutter speed remains the same. (5Ds needs more motion stopping due to high MP). PRINTS from 5ds can only be shaper or the same as 6d for any given shutter speed. I won't hesitate to use a 6D (or M5/M6) in a situation that I'd prefer to have the 5DS, and vice versa. I use the 5DS in reach-limited situations (where I expect to crop), and when shooting landscapes and macros. I've been using a pair of 6D for most DSLR shooting for six years, and a 5DS for specialized shooting, for two (also 1D- and M-series). The 5DS is noticeably larger and heavier, as are its image files and their effects on your computer system. The 5DS has much more advanced AF user-settings than the 6D, and a dedicated thumb joystick-controller, in place of the "P&S" style control dial & 4-point button gizmo on the 6D. The differences in output from 20MP to 50 are apparent at less than huge print sizes.Īt what print size would you say it becomes apparent? If you are never zooming in then it probably doesn't matter for the screen. So, the only cases in which the 5Ds offers significant advantages over the 6D are when I'm doing huge prints or severe crops.ĤK is only a little over 8MP. But, when scaled down to even 4k screen res, it seems that images taken with the 6D look better. If I keep my 6D, I get the advantages of Magic Lantern and an Eg-S Focusing Screen, and a slower minimum shutter speed (5Ds needs more motion stopping due to high MP).

I've been trying to decide whether I should upgrade to a 5Ds.
